This week I’ll be introducing 5 of my favourite Korean snacks, which you can easily purchase from local convenience stores and markets.
You can usually find these Korean snacks for cheaper (or a second box for free) if you purchase them in bulk at Seoul Station’s (서울역) Lotte Mart or Wangsimni’s (왕십리) E-mart. Both are located near the subway stations. The markets also sell imported snacks from the United States and Europe. Some selections of snacks are cheaper in Daiso or privately owned stores inside underground shopping areas. These snacks can also be found at any of the convenience stores nearby (such as Mini Stop, GS25, CU, and etc).
A few things to note about Korean chips and snacks: compared to Western snacks, they are less salty and spicy. Most chips labeled spicy are in fact sweet. Korean snack prices range from 1000 to 3000 Won per bag (depending on the size). I recommend purchasing the ones that are on sale, or available for a 1+1 deal where you can receive 2 bags for the price of 1.
There are a large variety of Korean snacks – ranging from regular potato chips to even ddeokbokki flavoured snacks. I recommend trying them all during your stay, as some are extremely unique and very different from Western snacks.
