This time, I wanted to visit one of the nicest parks in Seoul (서울), South Korea. So, some friends and I went to a park called Some Sevit, which is floating artificial Island in Hangang (한강) ( Hangang Floating Island ) ( 세빛섬 ).
The address is 683, Olympic-daero, Seocho-gu, Seoul (서울특별시 서초구 올림픽대로 683 ( 반포동 )). The admission is free and the Opening date was in May 2011!
If you want to go there by subways, here is the directions: “Get off at Express Bus Terminal Station (고속버스터미널역) (Seoul Subway Line 3,7 or 9), Exit 8-1.Go straight for 250m, and turn right at the Express Bus Terminal 4-way intersection (고속버스터미널 사거리). Continue going straight for 400m and cross the road. Go straight through the underpass to arrive at Banpo Hangang Park (반포한강공원). Or , if you want to take the Bus, just take the Bus No. 405 or 740 and get off at Banpo Hangang Park.
If you come by car, you have a Parking Facilities which is available ( Banpo Hangang Park ). The fees are mentioned on the website. Here’s a little summary:
– 1,000 Won per 30 minutes (Additional charge of 200 won for every 10-min exceeded)
– One-day parking: 10,000 Won
– Monthly parking: 50,000 Won
First, what is Some Sevit ? Some Sevit (also known as Sebitseom) is four floating islands near Banpo Bridge and it is ‘’ the nation’s first-ever artificial island that floats on the surface of Hangang River. ’’
The theme of three of the four islands is flowers. Indeed, the first three one ( some solvit, some chavit and some gavit ) are flowers with different specifications.
The first island is Some Gavit (가빛섬) and looks like a giant flower in full bloom. On their website, Some Gavit is described as : the island filled with luxurious and elegant light! It is a multi-functional cultural facility which can be used as a venue for performances, international conferences, exhibitions and so forth’’. What are the available facilities in Some Gavit ? You can find : CNN café, Ola (Italian restaurant), Vista Restaurant, Goodwill Store, FIC Convention Hall, Tubester.
The second island is Some Chavit (채빛섬) and looks like a flower bud. Some Chavit is described as “the island full of bright and splendid joy!” A range of cultural experience and event zones including Beat Square, Youth Woods and 3D restaurants will be located here ’’. What are the available facilities in Some Chavit ? You can find Chavit cuisine ! Yummy!
The third island is Some Solvit (솔빛섬) and looks like a giant seed. Some Solvit is described as : the attractive and grand island ! ‘’ The islet has water sports facilities and outdoor garden from which you may enjoy the picturesque scenery of Hangang River ’’. What are the available facilities in Some Solvit ? You can find Space for cultural events.
And the last but not the least is Some Yevit (예빛섬), wich is not an Island ! Some Yevit is described as : the shining light that shares talent and artistic ability ! It is more a big Agora ( yes , the same that you can find in old Greece, or in Hanyang University! ). What can you expect from Some Yevit ? Media art gallery !
My Personal View on the Park :
My first reflection I had when I arrived on the square was : wow , it is super nice ! Then I told myself that this place is the perfect place for lovers. Indeed, I was right because while walking with my friends, there were several young and old couples around us. If you have a boyfriend or a girlfriend and want a good, peaceful and quiet place, I highly recommend Some Sevit !
Also, if you are the type of person who dislikes ‘’flashy’’ place and prefers more natural one, do not stop reading yet ! Right next to these artificial islands floating, you have a cleared ground where technology has not yet arrived. This terrain allows you to contemplate the Hangang River quietly, enjoy the stars in the sky ( if you are lucky ) , look at the bridge and watch the far far away city, remembering you Paris !
Enjoy!
