Finally March has gone and April has come! It means we can enjoy the nice weather because spring pretty much starts on April. Nowadays Korea is pleasant due to the spring flower festival. On campus, we can see beautiful flower. Then how about Seoul city and Korea? Today, I will talk about flower festivals and various events that are convened on April.
1. Cherry Blossom Festival (Yeouido & Jinhae Gunhang Festival)
If someone asks you ‘When you think about spring, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?’, then you will probably answer ‘Cherry Blossom’. Like this, it is a typical spring flower in Korea. During April, you can see Cherry Blossom everywhere even on normal streets. Especially, Yeouido Festival (여의도 벚꽃축제) that began in 2005 is most famous. This festival will show a grand sight for you. You can see Han River (한강), cherry blossom and people who looks happy in the city. Also, singing contest, art performance and parade on the street. It takes place from 4th to 10th on April. The place for festival is Yongdungpo Youiseoro (영등포 여의서로), Seoul located behind National Assembly (국회) of Republic of Korea.
Also, Jinhae Gunhang Festival (진해 군항제) which Korea’s largest Cherry Blossom festival will be convened from 1th to 10th on April. It goes along in the Jinhae (진해) and there are various events such as tribunal event, ascension event, star festival at night, fire show, art, and performance. So you can experience many things with beautiful flower landscape. This festival is one of the Korea’s best on April, both in name and reality.

2. Tulip Festival (Everland & Taean World Festival)
Next is a tulip, widely loved as much as cherry blossom. The tulip means confession of love and forever love in the language of flowers, so it goes with the spring. Especially ‘Everland Tulip festival (에버랜드 튤립 축제)’ which is convened from 17th on March to 24th on April is the most famous. During the festival you can see more than 1.2 million cluster of tulip. Also this year, Everland display extra-large ‘Flower Magic Tower’, and it is very popular now. Moreover there are some parades, and LED musical rose garden where you can see flowers that change color following the music, so you can see unique things.
There are similar to festival called ‘Taean World Tulip Festival (태안 튤립꽃 축제)’. Especially the tulip festival of Taean (태안) was selected as the world’s 5th best tulip festival. Therefore you can see compulsive colorful design in Taean. It is convened from 16th on April to 8th on May, so if you have a time, I recommend to go Taean and enjoying beautiful tulips.

3. Azalea Festival (Yeongchwi & Goryeo Mountain)
Last flower is azalea that we can usually see on the mountain. Azalea festival mostly takes place in the mountain because azalea is seen in there. If you like hiking, it would be the frosting on the cake for you. First one is ‘Yeongchwi Mountain Azalea Festival (영취산 진달래축제)’. It is one of the best place to look around azalea. Also it provides concert, and art performance so you can enjoy various events.
Second one is ‘Goryeo Mountain Azalea Festival (고려산 진달래축제)’ which takes place in Ganghwa-gun. You can experience Ganghwa’s history, culture and natural environment because Ganghwa is one of the traditional place in Korea. Let’s go Goryeo Mountain and feel the mood of spring.

4. Beer Festival (The Beer Week Seoul & Gapyeong Handmade Beer Festival)
If you would like drinking beer, mark your calendars! The Beer Week Seoul is taking place at Common Ground from April 13 to April 17. It will feature the best of Korea’s craft beers and world-famous beers from other countries. And I recommend purchasing Blind Ticket, that you can get a beer coupon (four free drinks at The Beer Week Seoul) as well as limited edition The Beer Week Seoul glass! It’s price is 15,000 Won and you can purchase at any booth locations such as Gyeongnidan (경리단), Itaewon (이태원), Gangnam (강남), Samsung, and Common Ground (커먼그라운드). Also there are many events for participants, so beer lovers! Enjoy the festival!
Gapyeong handmade beer festival (가평 수제맥주 축제) will take place from 14th to 15th on May. If you want to go there you have to buy the ticket that can get 3 free beers in festival. Also, representative craft brewery will participate in and various countries’ beers will be provided. And you can eat some side dishes with beer because there are food store at the street. I recommend this festival if you like beer and music. And especially on Saturday, the festival goes along until at 11 p.m., so you can enjoy more! Also, many foreigners will participate in the festival, so you can meet various people in there. Moreover they provide shuttle bus for people, so you just go Gapyeong Station (가평역).
