In this post, we will figure out how to manage a major grocery shopping for your cereals, fruits, snacks, milk, beer, and other daily necessities, such as toiletries, bed covers or stationary.
Step 1: Find your way to E-Mart
Residence Hall: Take Bus 2220 in front of the dormitory. As all buses (2220) go to the same direction, you don’t need to worry about taking a wrong bus. Take off at 10th bus stop. You don’t necessarily have to count each station whenever the bus stops! Just push a stop bell, when you come to have the following view (ahead of the bus):
Get off when the bus comes to a stop. You will see this view when you get off:
Now that you are facing the building, turn right and go straight until you come to see escalators and stairs on your left side.
Go up to the stairs/take the escalator to go to the middle section of the building passageway. Walk a few steps and you will discover a big yellow sign saying “E-Mart” to your left (next to Café Pascucci).
Majangville: Go to Majang Station and take Line 5. From there it is just one stop to Wangsimni Station! Take off there and find Exit 12. It can be a little bit tricky, as this station is pretty confusing. From Line 5 you will first go up one level, then take another elevator, turn, take another elevator, go straight, cross the platform of the central line (=simply follow the signs), and here you are:
Step 2: Shop till you drop
The shop (E-mart) consists of two floors, and you can find most of food and daily necessities (e.g. shampoo and other toiletries) on the ground floor (where you entered).
On the first floor, you can find cushions, blankets, kitchen stuff, and even some small home appliances. You can get to the first floor by using either the escalators at the entrance or at the middle of the shop.
Believe me, it’s quite fun to have a look around the whole shop at least once. You will quickly get to know what is where. Furthermore, there are some food samples which you can try. Usually middle-aged ladies are cooking such samples in small pans or the food is readily presented on small plates. Sometimes there are some beverage samples offered as well. So don’t hesitate to take small bites from them, and recharge your energy exhausted from wandering around the huge shop. ;)
Step 3: Get home again
When you want to get back, simply go to where you took off when you arrived; no matter if by bus or subway. However, students from residence hall have to be careful when taking bus 2220 again. You need to take bus 2220 with a blue card in front of the driver (see the picture below). The destination of this bus is the dorm, so you don’t need to worry about where to get off. When you take the bus with a red card, you will horribly detour end up and will – sooner or later – end up at the very same station you departed from.

Pay attention to the blue card when taking the bus home
This building we just explored is itself a huge entertainment centre, with a big cinema on the top floor (CGV Cinema), a food court just one floor below the cinema, various restaurants, and a huge shopping center for fashion items (Enter-6). We will get to the various entertainment offers in this building later on. Stay tuned!
