Yeounsu Koh
Mangwon-dong has quickly become one of Seoul’s most beloved hotspots—perfect for a relaxed afternoon that flows into a cozy evening. Starting around 3PM, this five-stop course offers a well-paced mix of coffee, shopping, dinner, dessert, and a peaceful night view.
1. Umum Café
The journey begins at Umum Cafe, a small but stylish spot known for its premium coffee and aesthetic desserts. The minimalist interior and calm atmosphere make it ideal for unwinding or chatting with friends. A must-try on the seasonal menu is “Cherry Blossoms”, a tangy berry-flavored dessert that’s light and refreshing. Despite the line outside, the wait typically doesn’t exceed 20 minutes—and it’s worth it.
2. Local Shops & Gacha Corners
Just a short stroll from the cafe, the streets of Mangwon are lined with independent shops, gacha capsule machines, and keychain stands. This area is a paradise for fans of quirky, character-themed goods—think tiny plushies, vintage stickers, and rare collectibles. Browsing is just as fun as buying, and each corner reveals something unexpectedly charming.
3. Ichijen
As dinnertime approaches, Ichijen makes for the perfect next stop. This cozy Japanese restaurant is famous for its crispy tendon—tempura served over rice—and its consistently comforting flavors.
Each bowl is satisfying without being too heavy, and the seasonal tempura options add a unique twist. This month’s feature includes mushrooms stuffed with meat and scallops—a flavorful highlight not to be missed.
4. Dangdo
Dessert lovers should head next to Dangdo, a sleek gelato shop with a rotating selection of both classic and seasonal flavors. The owner likes to experiment with various flavors and even the ones I tried were far from ordinary. Salt, Rice and Basil Pineapple. Odd right? But it’s a very flavorful experience as well as a delight.
5. Mangwon Hangang Park
To end the evening, take a walk to Mangwon Hangang Park. As the sun sets and the city lights begin to reflect on the water, the cool night air and gentle breeze from the river offer a refreshing contrast to the city’s pace. Bringing a mat or simply sitting by the riverside adds a peaceful, reflective moment to the day—ideal for quiet conversation or just soaking in the view.
Mangwon-dong offers a blend of laid-back charm and trendy spots, perfect for those seeking a slower, sweeter side of Seoul. From cozy cafés to riverside serenity, this course provides a well-balanced mix of flavors, sights, and feelings. When the next free afternoon comes around, Mangwon might just be the ideal choice.
