Hi, fellow blog readers! Today, I came to introduce you to a recipe for my favorite Korean food. As I made this dish this weekend, I thought that it would be fun to share how to make it and what it tastes like.
The dish is called ‘Japchae’ and it is basically noodles with stir-fried vegetables. The specialty of this food is that we use glass noodles for it. Because of this special noodle, it tastes more savory and chewier. The basic ingredients you need for it are glass noodles, carrots, spinach, onion, mushroom, olive oil, salt, pepper, thick soy, sugar, and sesame oil. The dish generally tastes like sweet soy sauce and sesame oil.
#1 First step: Soak and boil the noodles
Before you get the vegetables ready, you need to soak the noodles in water in order for them to macerate. About an hour is needed for macerating so I recommend you to soak it before you get started with your cooking.
#2 Second step: Trim the vegetables
Cut the vegetables in whatever way you want. Normally, Koreans trim it in a thin, long way but it is up to you.
#3 Third step: Stir-fry the vegetables
Oil the frying pan with olive oil and fry all the vegetables including the mushrooms. In this step, you need to add salt and pepper to add the savory taste.
#4 Fourth step: Add the boiled noodles to the pan
Add the boiled noodles to the vegetables and fry them all together. Put in 4 spoons of thick soy, 2 spoons of sugar, and 2 spoons of sesame oil. Personally, I like my Japchae sweet, so I add a little more sugar.
When you mix all of them up, then you are ready to try your Japchae. This dish is served often in restaurants as a side dish, but I am sure that you will like it more when you cook it. It is because the newly cooked Japchae is the best Japchae you can ever have! If you are into trying Korean food, try cooking it at home since it is quite simple!
