Notable Female Celebrities-Alumni from HYU

I had written an article on notable celebrity-alumni from Hanyang previously, but had just introduced male celebrities. So this week, I will be introducing female celebrities from Hanyang.

Lee Young Ae

I watched her most renowned drama “Dae Jang Geum” (translated as Jewel in the Palace) in my childhood, and I have liked her as an actress since that time. In this drama, she played as a Korean traditional physician who has to overcome difficulties and obstacles in her life to be accepted as a physician in the royal palace. From this drama, I learned a lot about Korean culture. This video takes you back to the Joseon Dyansty of South Korea where you can reminisce the old traditions of Korea. This drama also highlights the hardworking character of Lee Young Ae. Overall, even though I am not a lover of traditional dramas, I definitely fell in love with “Dae Jang Geum” because of Lee Young Ae’s emotional actings throughout the drama. I strongly recommend you to watch this drama.

Choi Ji Woo

Choi Ji Woo is most renowned for her television drama “Winter Sonata” in which she co-starred with Bae Yong-Joon. It is a hit Korean drama in 2002 before dramas such as “Boys over Flowers”, “The Heris”, and “The Man from the Star”, all aired in Asia. This drama is considered as the beginning milestone that ignited and spread the Korean wave throughout the world. It is a romantic love story between Choi and Bae that warms the audiences’ hearts after seeing the film. For your further information, the film location is on Nami Island which is one of the hottest major tourist attractions in South Korea. To catch a glimpse of what this drama is all about, I would recommend seeing this video, and I am pretty sure you will fall in love with this drama once you start watching it. Korean drama are addicting just like drugs.

Lee Young Ah

She is not to be mistaken with Lee Young Ae though their names are a bit similar. I first got to know her in the drama “Iljimae” which is based on comic fiction of a heroic character during the Joseon era. For your knowledge, most of the traditional movies and dramas are based in the era of the Joseon dynasty and I don’t think it is a coincidence. She is also renowned for other dramas such as “Golden Bride”, “The King’s Dream”, and “Love Can’t Wait”. She is a versatile actress who can perform in various categories of filming, ranging from drama, comedy, to romance. I find her to be very sexy and attractive. How do you think? Oh, I forgot to tell she also sang a song in one of her dramas “King of Baking, Kim Takgu.” Please enjoy the song!!!

Kim Hyo Jin

One of her movies is very unique for featuring three out of four stars from Hanyang University. Starring Choi Ji Woo (above), Lee Byung Hun (an actor I introduced in my last article), and Kim Hyo Jin, in the romantic comedy film “Everybody has Secrets”, is about a guy trying to fall in love with three girls who are all siblings, although he doesn’t know about it. Kim Hyo Jin is also renowned for her theater performance “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. She is married to Yoo Ji Tae who is a Korean actor and director. She is definitely one of my favorite actresses in Korea.

As you can see, they are the pride of Hanyang, and there will be more future Hanyang-ian celebrities to come. I am really proud to be part of Hanyang. So, why don’t you come and study abroad in Hanyang to see beautiful Hanyang ladies?
