As I come to the end of my 4 month stay in Seoul at Hanyang University (한양대학교), I can only look back to reflect on positive memories. The experience as a whole was both the most rewarding and eye opening journey I have ever embarked on. I have made friends from all across the world that have taught me more about culture than I could ever learn in a textbook or classroom.
In addition to what I was able to learn while in Korea, I was able to travel to other countries within Asia that would have been a lot more difficult to visit had I been in the United States. The places I have already visited are Shanghai, China and Bohol and Cebu, in the Philippines and I will be going to Osaka and Kyoto, Japan and Palawan in the Philippines for the next 2 weeks. Flights to these countries are much cheaper out of Seoul than they would be from the United States, which gives me another satisfaction for spending my time here.
The professors that I took my courses with were very welcoming and eager to teach us not only about their courses but a little more about Korean culture as well. They were also very positive with the foreign students wanting to visit other places within Asia and worked with our schedules.
Korean culture was very interesting and not difficult to embrace. From the way Koreans eat group meals, to the classy way they dress, to the way they organize the trash, I felt that I was learning more everyday. I would love to visit this country again in the future and share my knowledge and appreciation of the culture with my friends and family back home. I will always cherish my time here and I am so grateful for the opportunity I was given to study at Hanyang University.
