If you’ve been craving a quick escape from your daily routine but your budget (and finals schedule) says no to international flights, I’ve got just the thing. Tucked away on a hilltop neighborhood near Changsin Station, there’s a little corner of Seoul that feels like a scene straight out of a Hong Kong street movie. And the best part? It’s only 30 minutes from Hanyang University!! Not a 3.5-hour flight.

This Hong Kong hidden gem restaurant is named “Chang Chang”. It is a charming restaurant perched near Naksan Park, and it’s quickly becoming a favorite for youngsters, locals, and even tourists who stumble upon its neon-lit façade. The first thing you’ll notice when you arrive is the view. Honestly, it’s worth the trip just for that. From the outdoor terrace and window-side seats, you get an uninterrupted look at Namsan Tower, the golden-hued rooftops of Seoul, and a truly stunning sunset if you go in the early evening.

But let’s talk food, because that’s really why we’re here. Hidden Hong Kong’s menu is full-on Cantonese comfort: think rich braised pork belly (동파욱), steaming bowls of sichuan noodles, and beef-braised noodles (우욱면) that crackles just right. The portions? Massive. I saw at least three tables end up asking for takeout containers, because they can’t finish their order. It’s a budget-friendly option where you really get your money’s worth, especially if you go with a friend or two and share.

It’s the kind of spot that gives you that warm, comforting “healing” feeling, especially after a long week of classes or midterms. Whether you grew up eating Chinese food or you’re just curious about Hong Kong-style flavors, it’s a refreshing escape from your usual Korean food rotation. The restaurant’s retro interior! With red lighting, nostalgic signage, and Chinese characters; adds to the immersive vibe, making it feel like a legit night out in Kowloon, right in the heart of Seoul.
And yes!! It’s extremely Instagrammable. From the moody red lighting to the scenic rooftop view, this is the type of place where you’ll find yourself snapping photos before the food even arrives. If you’re into sharing hidden gems or just looking for that one photo to spice up your feed, Hidden Hong Kong delivers on both taste and aesthetic.

(Hey, it’s me! Hehe)
Now, a little smart tip if you’re planning to visit: expect a wait, especially on weekend evenings. The place has been trending lately, and seating fills up fast. The best way to avoid standing in line forever is to check Catch Table in advance and try to make a reservation. If you’re not able to book a spot, don’t worry; you can still go and add your name and phone number to the waiting list on-site.
While you wait, I highly recommend taking a stroll around the neighborhood. You’re near Naksan Park, which offers beautiful views of the Seoul Fortress Wall and a peaceful walking trail. Or, if you’d rather chill with a coffee, head over to a nearby café with a great view: Donut Jongsu. It’s only a few minutes away and has a cozy, quiet atmosphere with good drinks and great light; perfect for reading, journaling, or just zoning out while your table gets ready.

This restaurant reminds me of something; sometimes you don’t need to go far to feel like you’ve traveled. Just hop on the subway, grab a friend or two, and you’ve got yourself a mini getaway! All without leaving the city. If you go, let me know what you ordered and what you thought, I’ll be excitedly waiting for your Instagram post of the pictures you must have taken here!
Anyway, I think this will be the last article for the semester, thus I purposely trying to make a more fun and meaningful recommendation! See you all on the next semester~
Cheers, Stefanie.
