It’s the fall season!! As the temperature starts to decrease and the leaves begin to change, I’m excited to start my fall foliage series. Everyone loves fall foliage and Autumn is my favorite season as it offers the perfect weather for taking a walk without sweating. I can also enjoy the beautiful and warm shades of yellow and red leaves while taking pictures for my memories.
Gwanaksan is one of the best destinations to experience the beauty of fall. In a recent article, I recommended it as one of the best hiking spots to explore. If you haven’t read that yet, don’t miss my article from last week where I shared the 9 best places to hike for things to do during Chuseok.

behind the Seoul National University Campus, it offers convenient access. You can hop on a bus to the campus and stop at ‘Construction Environment Research Institute 건설환경종합연구소’ where you can begin your hike. Alternatively, you can go through the Gwacheon Station entrance.
For those eager to witness the autumn transformation, the first fall foliage for this year in Seoul & Gwanaksan will be Oct 19th / 20th & the peak foliage will be Oct 30th / 31st. However, keep in mind that it will be very crowded during this period. As you can see from my pictures, you’ll notice that I visited Gwanaksan after the peak foliage last November, when most of the leaves have fallen off.
While ascending to the peak, you’ll come across 2 notable sights worth capturing: the Gwanaksan Meteorological Observation Station (left) and the Yeonjundae Hermitage (right).

My personal favorite is a hidden gem on the descent – a picturesque stair trail adorned with vibrant and colorful leaves and red lanterns hanging around the trees.

Stay tuned for the next chapter of the fall foliage series next 2 weeks! Goodbye!!!
