Two ways to deal with Coronavirus: care or not

Woo Joo Min

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease which spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person cough or sneeze. Coronavirus outbreak became global issue and declared pandemic situation by WHO. Therefore, it is highly required to isolate oneself and keep social distance as much as one can to prevent getting or even carrying disease.

In Korea, COVID-19 was indeed on the rise but incident involving Korean cult group Shincheonji made situation real ugly. Since the incident, many kinds of measure were taken to prevent further spread of the virus like re-scheduling school plans or furloughing employees. Because the incident in Daegu caused a lot of difficulty in medical field, many doctors volunteered to help patients in Daegu even closing their own hospitals.

While somewhere in the world, doctors and nurses are working overtime every day wearing uncomfortable masks, other places are full of people enjoying their spring picnic and having a party. The press pointed that many people went out for a picnic regardless of the fact that coronavirus is still a serious issue worldwide and it does not only effects themselves but could bring significant results to other people.

Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCHQ) repeatedly exhorted not to attend events that take places in enclosed locations and to wash hands often. CDSCHQ informed entire country 7 that thoughts like “It’s just me – one person. What could be go wrong” causes further spread of the virus. And that keeping social distance is the best way to protect yourself and your family.

What is your way dealing with corona-virus? To recognize the dedication of many people trying to stop the virus and be part of stopping the virus? Or telling yourself that you should enjoy your time when you’re young and spread the virus?
