Playlist No.1 – “Spring has Sprung”

Written by : Hahyeon(Summer) Kim

The snow’s melted, and my pollen allergies are back. That can only mean one thing—spring has finally arrived! Do your feelings start to awaken with the season, or are you someone who’s not particularly moved by the sentiment of springtime? As for me, I definitely feel the seasonal shift. Spring makes me noticeably happier—it feels like opening a new chapter in life. The world seems warmer, brighter, and just a bit more hopeful.

So today, I’m sharing five songs I’ve been listening to lately. It’s not quite enough to make a full playlist, but I’m calling it one anyway: “Spring has Sprung.” It features both Korean and English songs. You’ll find the YouTube links to all five below—feel free to explore the blog while you listen. Ready to press play?

First song: “? (Question Mark)” by Primary (Feat. CHOIZA, Zoin.T)

Released in October 2012, this smooth rap ballad dives into the fluttery confusion of a crush. The narrator thinks the feelings might be mutual, but the girl’s subtle cues—like barely smiling at him and wearing a couple ring—leave him uncertain. Despite the signs, he’s still completely drawn to her. It’s charming, light, and captures the unsure but exciting energy of a spring crush.

Second song: “Ordinary Love” by Park Kyung (Feat. Park Boram)

Released in September 2015, this track also fits the rap ballad genre. Featuring the late Park Boram (who sadly passed away on April 11th, 2024), it explores the “Some(썸)” stage of a relationship—when two people are flirting with the idea of being together. It also mentions “Mil-dang (밀당),” the Korean term for playing hard to get. But beware: play too hard, and you might lose what you had. Sweet, playful, and a little bittersweet.

Third song: “How Deep Is Your Love – Gumbo Unplugged” by PJ Morton (Feat. YEBBA)

Originally by the Bee Gees, this version leans into classic soul with a rich, live performance feel. PJ Morton and Yebba bring new life to the song with emotional vocals and clear lyric delivery. Unlike the earlier tracks about crushes and flings, this one’s about deep, mature love—perfect for those quiet moments when spring feels a little more reflective.

Fourth song: “Yes I’m Changing” by Tame Impala

Released in July 2015, this psychedelic rock track is introspective and meditative. It’s about growth, change, and leaving past demons behind. Spring is, after all, about new beginnings and shedding old layers. This song captures that transition—emotional, strange, and strangely peaceful. Fingers crossed our inner demons don’t find their way back!

Fifth song: “Jasmine” by Common Souls

Released in 2018, this R&B/soul track is chill and cozy. Common Souls may not be widely known, but their smooth sound is captivating. I recommend exploring more of their music, but “Jasmine” in particular is perfect for a relaxed stroll under cherry blossoms. Honestly, I wouldn’t blame you if you played it on repeat.
