Once you’ve experienced the dynamic city of Seoul, with its nonstop K-pop beat, top fashion and cutting-edge technology, combined with tradition, palaces, and temples, you might be looking to explore farther afield. Nami Island might satisfy you!
Spring has come in Nami Island, located on the boundary of Gapyeong, Gyeonggi and Chuncheon, Gangwon which is about a one-hour drive away from Seoul. The island whose perimeter is about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) is perfect for those who want to take a slow walk around the trees covered in green.
Nami Island on the Bukhan River has become incredibly popular for its majestic trees and scenic views. It also features cafes and tourist shops, and a small museum and gallery. You can explore the island by foot or rent a bike. To reach the island, catch the island’s ferry or, if you’re feeling adventurous, take the zip wire.
In 2006, this half-moon shaped island declared its “Cultural Independence” from the Republic of Korea, therefore it has its own diplomatic and cultural policies, including its own national flag, anthem, passport, visa, currency and certificate of citizenship.
The island is also known as the shooting location of very popular Korean drama Winter Sonata.
