Connected Car, Expansion of Information Sharing

Recently, as the Internet has been combined with automobiles, ‘connected cars’ have begun to appear in which drivers share and utilize various information. A connected car is a vehicle that enables two-way communication by connecting information and communication technology to the vehicle. Connected cars communicate in real-time with other vehicles, transportation and communication infrastructure, helping drivers comfort and safety. It is also called a giant Internet of Things device in the sense that it provides various Internet services and the car itself becomes a communication device. The ultimate goal is said to be the realization of an autonomous driving system that runs to its destination by itself. As it is regarded as one of the core technologies that complete the future car, not only automobile companies, but also IT companies such as Apple and LG Electronics are entering this market and competing fiercely.

According to Global Market Insight, a market research firm, the automotive OS market is expected to triple from $4.5 billion in 2019 to $12 billion in 2026. Hyundai Motor Group is concentrating on its own OS development by integrating IT affiliates. In November of last year, in cooperation with NVIDIA, an artificial intelligence computing technology company, the company decided to introduce an AI-based connected car operating system to all vehicles of Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Genesis brands by next year. In addition, on the 6th, Hyundai Motor Group will expand its business in cooperation with CJ ENM and TVING. According to the agreement, Hyundai Motor Group’s connected cars are expected to provide customers with a variety of OTT content as well as a richer and newer infotainment user experience.
